Summer Is A Hungry Time

summer is a hungry time
i bite black flies out of the air
and gulp down clouds of gnats
uncork the heads of fat mosquitos
and sip the blood from their thin straw forms
a well-fed tick bursts like a grape in my grin
and i love the crunch of a clutch of fleas
though their legs stick in my teeth
pests and parasites yes
summer is a hungry time
