our tongues busy with life,
                                    and love, and language,
window open to fall’s chill,
                                    a square of streetlight,
and leaf shadows on the blanket
                                    clothing our joined legs,
sighs mixing with quiet sounds of tires
                                    on the rain-soaked street.
