effervescing time
that measure we will ape to the last
with each searching minute gray
count in the bleeding thousand

locked and resting sun-side
end it with a pointless ritual march
across the twilight barrier
to the clutch of ancient hollow tombs
standing stones a semicircle in a circle
while the world shades this last target
until the sun’s last swallow whole
