A Curious Fear

something lingers there just outside my sight
at the outer edge of my consciousness
some vague essence always peripheral
calling me to toss my blindness aside
throw curtains of awareness open wide
overcome the repetitious and dull
all reactionary responsiveness
and lift my weary face toward the light
but what rapacious creature craves my view
not being sure i keep my gaze askew
